As hospitals and healthcare organizations put processes and systems into place to support Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act provisions, including meaningful use of electronic health records, adverse event reporting and comparative effectiveness research, it has become clear that the supply chain contains the necessary data to fuel all of these initiatives. During the 2014 HIMSS pre-conference symposium, Linking Technology and Supply Chain: Cost, Quality and Outcomes (CQO), healthcare industry experts will discuss how provider organizations can tap their supply chain assets to drive down costs while improving patient care and financial outcomes for their organizations.
Speakers include: John Glaser, CEO, Health Services, Siemens Healthcare;Mary Beth Briscoe, CFO, University of Alabama Hospital;Leigh Anderson, COO, Premier, Inc. ITS;Terrie Reed, associate director, informatics, FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health and currently serving as medical device safety consultant to the chief medical officer with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.
Suzanne Alexander-Vaughn, product director for the GHX implantable device supply chain initiative will participate in the session: The IT Connection: Health IT as the Connector Across the Enterprise. Alexander-Vaughn will discuss strategies to integrate supply chain and clinical systems, facilitate data sharing, and conduct meaningful analysis to support cost, quality and outcomes initiatives.
“Healthcare system and vendor IT leaders must collaborate to improve the ability to capture, store and share product data across clinical, supply chain and financial systems in an automated and secure manner,”says Alexander-Vaughn. “In this session, we’ll present best practices for making this critical link, including the technology infrastructure and process improvements required to facilitate effective data capture, sharing and analysis.”
The symposium is being held Sunday, February 23, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. For more information, visit himssconference.org and look for pre-conference education, pre-conference symposia, and Supply Chain (Cost, Quality, Outcomes).
